Antimicrobial sensitivity of Neiserria gonorrhoeae to spectinomycin, rosoxacin, penicillin, tetracycline, cotrimoxazole and kanamycin was determined in vitro. The percentage of resistant strains to commonly employed drugs like penicillin, tetracycline and cotrimoxazole were 54.92, 35.91 and 46.47 percent respectively. The resistance to kanamycin, a not so frequently employed drug was 32.39 percent, while that to spectinomycin and rosoxacin not used routinely for treatment of gonorrhoea in our hospital was 21.12 and 25.35 percent respectively. Spectinomycin resistance was always associated with resistance of one to four of the other drugs tested. Similar findings were observed amongst 84 percent of the rosoxacin resistant strains. Overall multiple resistance was observed in 64 percent of the isolates.
