Obesity in a child with untreated coeliac disease

Obesity is reported in a boy 5 years old with untreated coeliac disease diagnosed on the basis of recurrent episodes of abdominal pain and of family history. Gluten-free diet induced acceleration of length and weight velocity and increase of weight excess, as well as resolution of the abdominal symptoms. It is concluded that obesity in a child does not exclude the diagnosis of coeliac disease.
