The value of CT in disseminated sclerosis

Eighteen patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), eleven of whom had clinically definite MS were submitted to computed tomography (CT). Two examinations were performed: (CT(0)) before and (CT(1)) one hour after infusion of 32 g of iodine as a contrast medium. Two patients from each of the diagnostic of groups showed enhancing lesions in the CT. These four patients had experienced exacerbation of the disease less than three months prior to the CT. CT(1) may be used in the diagnosis of early MS but only if the patient has had a recent exacerbation.
