Acute pain due to kidney/ureter stones treated with intramuscular Voltaren or Ketogan

A randomized, prospective double-blind study of the analgesic effect and tolerability of Voltaren versus Ketogan was carried out. Fifty-six consecutive patients with acute renal or ureteric colic were treated intramuscularly. Mechanisms of prostaglandin-synthetase-inhibitors are discussed. Both preparations are effective in the management of calculus colic. No significant differences were observed in analgesic effect or analgesic time, but fewer side effects were observed in the group treated with the non-narcotic agent Voltaren.
