Rethink urged on Framework programme

The European Commission has been advised to redesign the proposed research advisory system for the Fifth Framework Programme. The now defunct European Science and Technology Assembly (ESTA) has told the commission that the new structure could result in the inefficient coordination of academic and industrial efforts and confusion about the roles of the advisory committees. The ESTA is particularly concerned about the plan to split industrialists and academics into separate advisory panels.
