Balloon catheter dilatation for the treatment of oesophageal strictures in infants is a relatively new method. We present our experience with 20 dilatations in one patient with two strictures after lye ingestion and seven dilatations in two patients with anastomotic strictures after oesophageal atresia repair. We conclude that balloon dilatation of the oesophagus is a safe, simple, effective and economical alternative to other nonsurgical managment of oesophageal strictures.
