Sympathetic-adrenal system and myocardial hypertrophy in patients with hypertension

The function of the sympathoadrenal system was studied in 44 patients with hypertension accompanied by the development of myocardial hypertrophy. Data were presented on the urinary excretion of catecholamines and dopa after administration of L-dopa. The development of myocardial hypertrophy was accompanied by the increased activity of the symapthoadrenal system. All the enzymes of catecholamine synthesis, 1st of all norepinephrine synthesis, were mobilized. The biochemical test with L-dopa indicated a significnt decrease in the potentials of the entire system.
