The maximum level of respiratory metabolism during the individual development of Glomeris connexa C. L. K. was observed during the final embryonic period, i.e. immediately before the larvae hatch. In post-embryonic stages respiratory metabolism decreases, though very slightly, as development proceeds. A statistically significant decrease in oxygen consumption was found only in stage IV larvae and in juvenile individuals in the pseudomaturus stage. No great differences between the oxygen requirements of males and females were exhibited in either the juvenile stages or in the youngest adult individuals (maturus junior and senior).
