The 92 soil series found in four provinces on the southeast coast of Thailand were studied to correlate the US Soil Taxonomy, currently in use, with the Fertility Capability Soil Classification (FCC) system. The FCC is based progressively on surface soil texture, subsurface (< 50 cm) soil texture, and factors limiting crop production. Some of the FCC units have no direct correlation with the US System, since only surface soil properties are used; re-grouping of the units into five grades is proposed.
