DeVeTherm in suspected deep venous thrombosis of the leg

DeVeTherm, a new thermographic equipment providing mean temperature differences between the legs, was evaluated with phlebography as a reference in the diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis of the leg (DVT). Ninety-two out of 101 admitted consecutively patients with symptomatic DVT were examined first by thermography and then by phlebography. The predictive value of negative thermography was 0.68 (0.43-0.87). It is concluded that DeVeTherm can not be recommended as a screening method in patients with symptomatic DVT.
