The cardiac examination of 22 patients with transfusion haemosiderosis revealed.sbd.along with normal size of the left ventricle and appropriate systolic function.sbd.a moderate dilatation of the left atrium and the right ventricle suggesting the dysfunction of the left ventricle of restrictive type. A correlation was found between the size of the left atrium and the quantity of transfused blood, as well as the serum ferritin level. The role of haemosiderosis is causes of death of patients died due to cardiac insufficiency was clearly shown by the significantly greater quantity of transfused blood, the serum ferritin level and the considerable myocardiac siderosis found at autopsy. In patients died due to cardiac complications the significantly greater diameter of the left atrium suggests the prognostic importance of restrictive dysfunction in secondary haemosiderosis.
