Astragalus lusitanicus, a plant found in pastures in Cordoba, Spain, was given in pellets at 15 g/kg weight to 3-month-old lambs. Lambs developed a nervous syndrome with physiopathologic changes in blood and cerebrospinal fluid indicative of nervous alterations. A. lusitanicus caused a form of 'locoism', the development of which may involve thiamin deficiency.
