Post-mortem examination of the intersesamoidean ligament in 305 limbs revealed black or brown discoloration in 26%. Such changes were more frequent in the fore limb than in the hind limb. Radiography showed that these lesions were accompanied by exostoses, breaks in the bone contour and other changes. Such ligamentous lesions had to be distinguished from those of navicular disease.
