Emergency examinations in a neurological outpatient department

In 1983 and 1984, 615 emergency cases were treated in a neurological outpatient department. The distribution of neurological diagnoses, the frequency of admissions to the neurological department and the use of supplementary examinations are recorded. 13,5% of the patients were admitted to hospital immediately and 14% after a delay of some days or weeks. In 56.9% of the cases admission to the neurological department or a further visit to the outpatient department was not necessary.
