Ramiporta et al. point out that simultaneous operations for hydatid cysts of the right lung and liver are more frequent than suggested by Peleg, H. et al. in the Journal of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery 1985, 90, 783-787; they performed synchronous operations (in Madrid, Spain) in 22 of 30 patients with right lung and liver hydatids. All the operated patients survived; complications occurred in 5 patients with infected cysts and required further surgery. Literature on the frequency of occurrence of hepatic and lung cysts on the one hand and on the performance of simultaneous operation on the other hand is cited. Dr. H. Peleg replies that he and his team advocate a simultaneous approach and congratulate Dr. Ramiporta and his colleagues on the furthur notes, but the literature cited by Raminporta et al. is not in English and is not available.
