The paper is concerned with the cases of ectopic pregnancy operated in our Department during a ten year period. The meaning of clinical findings and complementary techniques (such as echography or HCG determination) is evaluated. The influence of several risk factors (previous abdominal surgery, contraceptive practice, pelvic inflammatory disease) on the occurrence of the disease is carefully studied, with special interest on the use of intrauterine contraceptive devices. Even if considering the lack of homogenity in the sample, a clear trend of increasing the incidence is observed. Clinical symptoms remain as a basic diagnostic tool, with the contribution of combined echography and HCG determinations. However the use of these techniques do not improve the precocity of the diagnostic.
