The agricultural sector in Bangladesh contributes about 50% of the country's GDP, and employs 60% of the population. Yet, Bangladesh is one of the largest receivers of food aid in the world due to the emphasis put on cash-crop production, natural disasters, and mismanagement of agricultural land. The paper summarizes the food insufficiency situation in Bangladesh and suggests some measures towards achieving relf-reliance. Among those measures are minimizing land damage, better management of resources and the application of proper scientific and technological methods.
