The author attempts to analyse the UN literature on the subject, which mostly pertains to migration from rural to urban areas and covers the aspects dealing with the impact of internal migration on the demographic and economic variables relevant to economic development. The two aspects are considered separately. The internal migration is generally considered to have a greater impact on economic than on demographic variables.
