The authors have developed a technique of screening audiometry adjusted for psychologic age-related features. It was used to determine tonal auditory thresholds in 4577 children aged 4-14. The employment of a limited number of frequencies permitted rapid accomplishment and was sufficient for detection of slight hearing defects caused by faulty conduction or sound perception. The number of false positive responses at screening audiometry was found to correlate with the children's age and development. Absolute values of frequency of affected hearing in different age groups were derived.
