The clinico-biologic and pathological features of 86 patients with B chronic lymphocytic leukaemia were revised in an attempt to find the correlations between these and the stages of the commonest clinical classifications (Rai's Binet's). The initial clinical stages were characterized by frequent fortuitous diagnosis, absolute peripheral lymphocytosis (.ltoreq. 20 .times. 109/L) non-diffuse bone marrow infiltrative pattern, bone marrow infiltration less than 80 per cent, serum LDH < 180 UI/L, and normal serum IgA and IgM levels. On the contrary, advanced clinical stages were associated to systemic symptoms peripheral lymphocytosis .gtoreq. 50 .times. 109/L, diffuse bone marrow infiltration, bone marrow lymphocytes over 80 per cent, serum LDH levels .gtoreq. 250 UI/L and hypogammaglobulinaemia. These findings suggest the necessity to include such data in further multivariant analyses aimed to assess their prognostic value.
