117 Cases of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction syndrome were analyzed. The female to male ratio was 2.6:1. The incidence of the disease was highest in the age group of 16-30 years. Complaints of pain, clicking and mouth opening limitation accounted for 74%, 66% and 25%, respectively. 78.8% of the cases were associated with malocclusion, 39.8% with oral parafunction and unilateral chewing, and over 41% with posterior displacement of TMJ condyles. Different treatments were described and discussed in detail. Of these the use of the acrylic resin occlusal plate combined with modified Hawley's appliance was thought to be more effective. Through this procedure 53 of our patients had their disease cured.
