Neonatal ophthalmia due to chlamydial infection

Two cases of neonatal ophthalmia due to Chlamydial infection are reported. Diagnosis was confirmed by demonstrating epithelial inclusions as well as by fluorescent antibody staining. Treatment with a 0.3% ofloxacin ointment given five times a day showed an excellent effect, and a clinical cure resulted in two to three weeks. An after treatment for two to three weeks was enough to eradicate the causative agent as suggested by no recurrence during a few months' follow-up.
