Early anterior arthrodesis in luxations of the cervical spine with tetraplegia

The authors present 20 cases of lower cervical dislocation with spinal cord injury that were treated by anterior fusion and stabilization with a plate and 2 screws. The consolidation was obtained in a mean period of 3 months in the 16 patients that survived but in none of the cases there was neurologic recovery. The authors conclude that this method is useful in patients with spinal cord injury to permit an early rehabilitation.
