The extent to which the elderly in the Czech Republic are poor is examined. The author concludes that poverty among the retired population is rare, although the standard of living of many of the elderly is quite low, and between 30 and 50 percent of elderly people think of themselves as being poor. The author also examines the relationship between the concepts of poverty and social exclusion, which is an issue of growing concern for the elderly. (ANNOTATION)
