Etiopathogenesis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease

In the light of an analysis of the available literature the hypothesis on Alzheimer's disease is presented. It is assumed that the cause of the disease is a deficiency of glutamic decarboxylase leading to failure of the GABA-ergic system determined probably by genetic factors connected with acquired factors releasing metabolic (mainly hormonal) disturbances. The failure of the GABA-ergic system leads to a failure of the cholinergic system and disturbances in the reactivity of the dopaminergic receptors with resulting functional insufficiency of the dopaminergic system. In the light of these data therapeutic suggestions are presented related to therapy of this disease.
