In situ fibrinolysis in the treatment of arterial bypass thrombosis. Apropos of a short therapeutic program

The authors report on their experience with a short program of in situ fibrinolysis in 13 patients managed over a one-year period for thrombosis of a prosthetic or venous bypass. Each patient was given an injection of a bolus of 250 000 U streptokinase along the graft, followed by a two-hour infusion of 250 000 U streptokinase. Repermeabilization of the bypass was achieved in 12 patients. No severe complications were recorded. In 6 cases, an underlying secondary stenosis was successfully treated by percutaneous transluminal angioplasty or surgery.
