Teenage marriages in Singapore

This is a study of 208,186 teenage marriages in various ethnic groups in Singapore (based on the Population Census 1980). The frequency of teenage marriages has been falling steadily among each of the 3 major races (Chinese, Malays and Indians) over the past 4 decades. For each decade, the Malays had the highest and the Chinese the lowest frequency. Lower frequencies were found among the literate (in particular, among the English speaking), those with a tertiary education and those who were Christians or had no religion. The educational level, religion and ethnic group similarly influenced the fertility of teenage marriages which was, however, consistently higher than those at later ages.
