The development of civil aviation in China since its beginning in 1950 is described. More than 200 domestic and international air routes are in operation. To meet the demands of tourism CAAC set up 20 air routes, and many airports have either been expanded or constructed. 40 cities now have daily scheduled flights. Custom free shops are available in five airports in China. Plans are being made to improve catering facilities, and to improve the quality of service extended to tourists.
