A case of re-expansion pulmonary edema after right middle and lower lobectomy

A 68-years-old man was admitted because of abnormal shadow of the right lower pulmonary area in the chest X-ray film. He was diagnosed lung cancer, and underwent right middle and lower lobectomy with partial resection of left atrium. Eight hours after operation, he complained dyspnea, and the chest X-ray film revealed pulmonary edema in right upper lobe. He was intubated immediately and controlled with respirator under the condition of 10 cmH2O CPAP. Two hours later, almost clear lung on chest X-ray film was observed. Re-expansion pulmonary edema (REPE) was suggested.
