The superior vena cava was replaced with a woven or knitted teflon graft (20-25 mm in length) in 28 mongrel dogs. Cepharanthin (biscoclaurine alkaloid) was administered 2 mg/kg/day daily to each animal. Grafts were harvested 12 days to 4 months following implantation. In 25 animals, grafts were completely covered with semi-transparent neointima. Diffuse coverage of each specimen with endothelial cells was recognized on a scanning electron microscope.
