Activity of ofloxacin, a new quinoline derivative, against Chlamydia trachomatis was assessed in cell culture comparing with that of tetracycline and erythromycin. For the assay a fluorescent antibody technique was employed. Strains used were serotypes C and D. The MIC and MLC of ofloxacin was equally 1 .mu.g/ml. Those of tetracycline and erythromycin were about one tenth and one hundredth of those of ofloxacin, respectively. Nevertheless, it is worthy to try the effect of ofloxacin in clinical patients with Chlamydial infection of the eye, because 1 .mu.g/ml MIC indicates a very sensitive organism to the agent concerned.
