A training manual on reproductive health is a key tool in an HIV/AIDS youth peer education program of the Asian Red Cross and the Red Crescent AIDS Task Force. Young people worked with project staff to develop a common outline for the manual that included sexual health and reproduction, personal development, support from friends, gender relations, HIV/AIDS, other youth health issues, and factors affecting risk behaviors. However, the basic text and its illustrations were modified according to the situation in individual regions and countries. In both Viet Nam and Cambodia, statements correcting local myths about HIV transmission have been included in exercises presented in the manual. Involvement of young people in all phases of program development and sensitivity to gender differences have been key to the success of this project.
