Propafenone in the treatment of high-risk ventricular arrhythmias

The one-month clinical electrocardiographic and dynamic study of 20 patients, 12 males and 8 females, aged between 38 and 75, suffering from ventricular arrythmia at risk of sudden death, belonging to the III, IV and V class of Lown, with different etiology, treated with propafenone 900 mg/day in 3 oral administrations has shown: -excellent efficacy in 16 cases; -low efficacy in 2 cases; -no efficacy in 2 cases; -reduction by 76% of total ventricular ectopic beats; -passage to lower classes of Lown in 14 cases; -need to reduce dosage by half in 4 cases for the appearance of electrocardiographic alterations of PR and QRS; -no side-effects on other organs and apparatus.
