A clinical retrospective review of 176 patients who underwent surgery for acute cholecystitis during a 5-year period, is presented. The importance of the lithiasic agent, the incidence of the gallbladder cancer, the necessity of an early surgical management, and the fundamental of the intraoperative biliary exploration to investigate a possible canalicular pathology, are emphasized.
