Physical development and functional capacity of adolescents in the transition from school to vocational training

The comparison of data concerning the physical development and maximum stress of juvenile workers at the time of changeover from the 10th form of comprehensive school to vocational training reveals, in a longitudinal research, differences between trades showing different levels of physical strain. Male applicants for trades with a higher level of strain show initially a lower degree of morphological and functional development; however, midway in the first year of training, they have assimilated it to the level of the remaining youths or even exceed some of their parameters. Female applicants for physically straining trades have, in the case of advanced biological maturity, a higher initial morphological and functional level, but just like males also greater developmental dynamics as compared with physically low-straining trades.
