The pre- and postoperative changes in the blood coagulation observed in 209 patients (aged 60-89) with surgical diseases of the abdominal organs demonstrated augmented blood clotting in the presence of depressed fibrinolysis, especially in patients who underwent emergency operations for acute appendicitis and strangulated hernia, acute cholecystits and acute pancreatitis. The hypercoagulative changes were aggravated by the presence of varicosity of the lower limbs and chronic thrombophlebitis. Antithrombotic therapy includes a combination of specific and nonspecific measures.
