On the basis of information from various branches of the national economy and of experience from the activities of the Inspectorate for Occupational Hygiene of the Municipal Council of Berlin, Capital of the GDR, the advance in primary and secondary noise control and experience in the elaboration and implementation of noise control programmes on the shop-floor level was analysed. In this context, it is expressed that especially in the formulation of tasks for investments and for projects it has already become a rule to enshrine in the notebooks of duties some demands on acoustic parameters and partly to raise them to the status of quality features. Well-tested measures of primary noise control, object-related combined noise protection measures and successful encasing of various noise sources are listed in tables by indicating the noise level reduction. From the individual analysis of occupational diseases (OD 50: endolabyrinthine impairment of hearing due to noise) indications are derived for a comprehensive dispensary treatment in occupational health for noise workers. Since not few working principles continue to generate noise, great importance will be attached to the individual protection of hearing. To obtain high wearing quota of individual means for hearing protection at the workplaces involved, indications are given based on experience acquired in the work of the inspectorate.
