Substitute valve operation by Technique II provides a valve-like mechanism in the popliteal vein and has been performed on 105 patients (119 lower extremities) with chronic venous insufficiency. Results were verified clinically, phlebographically as well as by means of Doppler ultrasound and venous pressure measurement. Follow-up checks by Technique II were applied to 115 lower extremities, within one to five years from surgery, and substantive clinical improvement was recorded from 108 of them. Evidence was found to reduction of ambulatory venous pressure, elimination of popliteal reflux, and good phlebographic function of substitute valves.
