The authors have used indomethacin (30 mg per day for 4 weeks) in the post-operative treatment of children who have had a surgical procedure for congenital dislocation of the hip--either an isolated Colonna procedure or associated with femoral shortening. It was concluded that indomethacin is effective in preventing or diminishing the incidence of post-operative para-articular bone formation. No secondary defects were noted.
