Brucellosis in North East Scotland

During the 31/4 yr up to the end of 1969 a total of 1739 people in NE Scotland were shown to have antibodies to Brucella abortus; only 160 of these were residents of Aberdeen, where 91 of the milk supply is pasteurized. The remainder were members of the rural population, 36 being veterinary surgeons and 550 having connections with farms. During the same period, 46.4% of the 690 dairy herds in the region were found to have Br. abortus in their bulk milks.
