125 teams lose 2,233 pounds in a work-site weight-loss competition

The dietetics staff of a major medical center sponsored a 4-week, team weight-loss competition for medical center staff during National Nutrition Month, with each team consisting of 6 individuals, with 750 employees participating for a $300 grand prize. Three nutrition classes were offered, and each contestant received an individualized weight control "kit" for effective weight loss. The total weight loss was 2,233 lb. (mean, 4.56 lb/person), with 84 per cent of the participants losing weight.(wz)
