Findings on paragonimiasis in Yun Yang Region, Hubei Province

According to the findings of a survey from 1981 to 1984 in Yun Yang country, it was proved that there is an endemic area of paragonimiasis. The result showed that 4 species of freshwater (spiral) snail were the first intermediate hosts, and 8 species of the freshwater crabs the second intermediate ones. The infectious rate of the former was 0.14%, while that of the latter 22.72%. Sinoptamon teritisum and S. introdigitum and S. chlearidigitum were first discovered to be the intermediate host in China. The adult worms and eggs from the naturally infected cats, dogs and artificially infected dogs, were proved to be Paragonimus skrjabini. The positivity rate of human skin tests was 11.57% (402 positive reactors). The manifestations were similar to those of paragonimiasis sichuani. The altitude of the distribution of the disease was from 460 to 1100 meters in Shen Nongjia Forest Zone.
