Atropy of the villous structures of the small intestine has been observed in 78.9% of children with dermatitis herpetiformis (14 boys and 5 girls). Anamnesis has revealed symptoms of the malabsorption syndrome in 31.5% of patients. Non-gluten diet diminished skin lesions and stimulated regeneration of the villous part of the intestinal mucosa enabling withdrawal or significant reduction of the dose of sulphones. Anamnesis, determination of IgE and food antibodies to alimentary antigens of IgE class facilitated exclusion of the atopic etiology of skin lesions.
