A 6-year-old cow that gave doubtful serological reactions for IBR virus in a herd apparently free from the disease was given a 5-day course of dexamethasone injections, during which vaginal swabs yielded bovine herpesvirus 2. Antibody titres to the latter virus subsequently reached 1:64, while there was no increase of titre to IBR virus.
