Comparison in vitro studies were performed with 989 of bacterial strains isolated during two years from surgical patients. Epidemiology of susceptibility and resistance to tobramycin and to gentamycin was performed in five groups of pathogen. The origin and frequency of tobramycin-susceptibility and tobramycin-resistance phenomenon were analysed. It was found that more often resistant-strains were isolated from post-operative wounds and for susceptibility strains from trophic ulcers. It is of extreme interest that in in vitro testing tobramycin is more effective than other aminoglycosides. These findings in vitro suggest that tobramycin will prove to be useful in the treatment of difficult and persistent infections.
