During the years 1961-1966, the authors examined P.M. a large number of zoo reptiles (snakes, lizards, chameleons, crocodiles and tortoises) and examined their intestinal contents for Salmonella and Arizona. The 319 Salmonella strains isolated belonged to 125 serotypes, the respective figures for Arizona being 154 strains and 64 serotypes. Salmonella was recovered more frequently from lizards and chameleons and Arizona from snakes.
