The concentrations of certain serum proteins and salivary IgA as well as tests for cell-mediated immunity were studied in 25 children with serous meningitis and pharyngitis. It was found that in the acute stage of the disease in both groups the levels of the determined proteins were increased, with the exception of alpha2 macroglobulin, but the rise in immunoglobulin level was not significant statistically. The increase of alpha1 antitrypsin was significantly higher in the group with serous meningitis. In the acute stage of the disease a significant fall was observed in the percent of T lymphocytes in both groups, while the increse in the percent of B lymphocytes was significant only in the pharyngitis group.
