Measurements of air-borne dust by two-stage gravimetry in 63 pig fattening, breeding and rearing units gave values in the range 1.52-5.91 mg/msuperscript 3-well below the maximum permissible level of 10 mg/msuperscript 3, though temporary concentrations of 19.2 mg/msuperscript 3 for 30 min were recorded at feeding time. Bacterial concentrations of 71-493 CFU/l and fungal spore concentrations of 5-51 CFU/l were found. Bacterial concentrations were higher in samples of large dust particles but fungal spore concentrations were higher in samples of fine dust particles.
