Mechanisms by which progesterone, oestrone sulphate and epidermal growth factor are transferred into mammary secretions are discussed with reference mainly to goats, considering quantitative importance of mammary uptake, routes of transfer, and physiological significance of these and other hormones for mammary function, reproductive performance and neonatal development.
