Production of urinary calculi in vitamin B6-deficient male, female and castrated male rats

Rats were deprived of vitamin B-6 for 7 weeks before being killed, or were kept on the diet for up to 6 months. Urine collections were made after 9 and 25 weeks, and creatinine, oxalic acid, Ca, Mg, citric acid and xanthurenic acid were estimated. A further group of rats were given pyridoxine hydrochloride supplements of 1, 2 or 4 mg daily for 6 weeks, at the end of which liver vitamin B-6 was estimated with Saccharomyces carlsbergensis as test organism (Atkin et al., Abst. 1099, Vol. 13).
